Ion Tailgater Portable iPod PA

The Ion Tailgater is built to look like a classic electric guitar amp and is effectively a speaker that runs on its own battery power. The twist with the Ion Tailgater is that it is explicitly designed for the iPod with an amazing portable iPod dock (that also works with the iTouch). The Ion Tailgazer also works with other MP3 players, however the input is a straightforward headphone jack in these cases. You can also plug in the included microphone and your guitar, keyboard, CD player, and other audio sources.

Visually the Ion Tailgater brings back memories of attending gigs in pubs where the performers dragged in their heavy (and powerful) amps, but the Ion Tailgater proves that size is not everything when it comes to great sound combined with portability.

Everything is contained in a small package 12.25 inches wide, 9 inches deep and 12.25 inches high. The heavy duty construction and rugged looks are complemented by its portability. A carry handle is provided to help move the unit around.

The Ion Tailgater unit runs off integral rechargeable battery with a playing life of around eight hours. Alternatively keep the mains power plugged in and just keep rocking. The makers have helpfully included a battery level indicator so that you don’t suddenly find yourself in the position of having no power. Recharging takes place in less than four hours. A microphone with XLR connection included in the Ion Tailgater package.

Sound quality was good, and even at higher volumes, our music was clear and undistorted. To conclude, a great design matched with an equally great performance, the Ion Tailgater iPod dock is an excellent choice.
